How to choose a pentest company

The lowest day rate and the best-known logo are the usual shortcut. The criterion that holds is whether the team can use what comes back.

Ask for the method

A serious proposal describes reconnaissance, exploitation, validation and the report. It says what stays out. It says how a critical issue is raised on day two. A framework list without a slice is decoration.

Ask who executes. A company that hides the team behind the brand often resells.

Ask what does not go into the report. A vendor that refuses to drop false positives will flood the board.

Distrust the package

“Five days, one app, one price” only fits a small app with a photographed scope. A real environment changes on day two.

An executor certification is a signal, not a guarantee. A sample report helps more.

An endless logo list without context does not prove depth. A verifiable reference does.

Short questions for the call

How do you define scope? What happens if something critical appears on day two? Do you exploit or only list? Can the work be ongoing? Do you work remotely?

A vague answer to any of those is already a signal. Price appears after the slice, not in the first email.
